Chinese artists are more involved in nation building than their western counterparts.
The technical specs
(if anyone cares to
ask):
- ca. 405 tapes were digitized (Sony beta max
tapes, ¾ inch tapes, various out-dated, other formats).
- Oldest tapes from 1985. The colors had faded
out, so we produced b/w digital copies.
- Audio is usually very clear, except with some
older tapes, where we only have mono, instead of stereo coverage.
The Archive exists in two forms:
a) on 147 DVD
(originally 274 DVD), with all files in the DVD video format, with a resolution of usually
720x576; and
b) on a 400GB
hard drive (using up ca. 340GB) , with high quality MPEG-4 AVI/DivX formatted files
also with a resolution of 720 x 576, which
were converted with the Microsoft MPEG4 encoder V2, ensuring that the MPEG-4 files are fully compatible with Windows
Media Player (the most widely used player for such file types) for normal users.
- The equipment necessary to push these very large
files out to
patrons would be a windows streaming video fileserver, which we’ll set up in the near
future.
